THE ELEVATOR SESSIONS?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Mighty Matias recently brought this up to me, and I loved the idea, so I thought I thought I'd pass it along and gauge interest while he's on highatus (© The Good Captain).

The majority of G.O.M.E.'s most active visitors are musicians themselves. Many of them are playing gigs or writing songs as I type this. The technology is available for all of us to collaborate, pass tracks back and forth via email, and work out some fantastic original rock. I'd love to do something like that! Even if we're the only ones that ever hear it, it'll be a lot of fun, and I think everyone would get a big kick out of it. Plus, it'll be QUALITY ROCK & ROLL, which is what G.O.M.E. is all about.

A few members of the Faithful are in active bands, already writing and recording and performing. We could include their tracks, but hopefully encourage them to get involved in the improv process. Like I just told our main man Rinjo, we could steal Erykah Badu's title: "Worldwide Underground". We've got USA, Argentina, Chile, Germany, UK, Australia, and Japan, plus many others ready to jam and make some good music. Worldwide indeed!

So I need to know what you guys think. Are you a musician? Are you interested in contributing to "The Elevator Sessions"? Are you just a rock & roll enthusiast but not a musician? Are you interested in hearing what your G.O.M.E. peers can come up with?

I think it's an awesome idea, and I look forward to your comments.

I can work something out with my guitar and my Cakewalk Sonar 6, (which I can get it for you). This is has just began, but as comments goes so far, it will rise above all our expectative, big step towards.....who knows... I really appreciate your determination for making this work.
Cheeto, your human Kicks ass!! We will be in touch soon, as for Rafa and HoboJoe, thank you both, and let's hit it.

Can't really call myself a musician, but have access to a friends studio. May be able to help out with some additional percussion or production work. Looking forward to hearing it!

I'd love to do the bass! But I don't know how I would record on to the computer.
Any suggestions people?

Nevertheless, I think this would be great idea even if I had to content myself with just listening.

Wow! The response here has been great. This is something I'm looking forward to setting up, even if it's a total fucking disaster, haha.

When I have the time (and patience...and semi-sober state of mind), I'll post a comprehensive tutorial about recording and sending your tracks. Obviously I'll need to figure out some kind of format before we really get started, but keep brainstorming and jammin', guys, because those tracks will be keepers. I'll figure out a way to work your parts into whatever record/export format we end up with. I think this'll be real fuckin' cool!

Drums will be the hard part. I'm sure we'd all like to avoid mechanized drum tracks but that might not be possible. I can get SOME live drums, but not all. Any drummers out there are encouraged (BEGGED!) to jump aboard. We'll see how many drummers speak up before we make a ruling. I have some ideas, though.

We're gonna have guitarists out the ass, which is fuckin' awesome. We'll end up with a wide variety of styles, which is exactly what we want. I'm hoping we end up with some hard chugging doomsday riffs, some good-time rock & roll, some out-of-this-world spacey stuff, and some mellower contemplative tracks as well.

I think it's a unique and plausible idea, and your enthusiasm is very encouraging. I know Mighty Matias is pumped right now. Hell, it was his idea. HAHA!

It will be awesome to hear the final product-- after we get the songs maybe all the contributors can do one big cover song. Like "We Are the World" or that "Do they know it's Christmas" :) Seriously though this is an amazing idea.

Big Jack said...

Rinjo-- Believe it or not, I had the same cover idea...without the "We Are the World"/"Do They Know It's Christmas" part (haha). I think it would be cool to do a Kyuss medley, or even a desert medley, and edit it so the transitions are smooth, but everyone gets the chance to do their thing. We could even try to get the Good Cap'n to send us an Inner-Head Flight Royale styled intro. "This is your captain speaking...tonight's destination...Palm Desert, California."

Of course Mighty Matias might push for a Fatso or Lalli medley, but I think he'll be cool with Kyuss. Right, man? HAHA!

HaHa, I'll go for "We are the world" Kyuss's style...HaHa I love the idea, listen bros , i'm setting up a forum and trying to gather as many music edition soft as I can, there will be news soon...once again, my vote goes for "we are the world"...
Be there, or be square..

Another vote to "We are the world" Kyuss's style.

Count Sophomores For Satan in for a worldwide underground collaboration on a rendition of "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

***BIZARRE REQUEST ALERT***

If I lay down a rough acoustic track of Faith No More's "Zombie Eaters", do any of you bassists out there want to add the low end? This is just a quick way to experiment and see how this "worldwide underground" project will work. If anyone's interested, just reply in this thread, or hit me up at elevatedradio@gmail.com. This just seems like a good way to figure out what works and what sucks, and get all the roadblocks knocked down before we really start rocking and investing time in the project.

hey guys, great idea.

iv been reading G.O.M.E. for the past couple of months, found a lot of great stuff on this blog! i play the drums and some percussion. Im currently in a stoner band called LSD, and im doing some jammin on the side as well. i don't have a kit set up anywhere and really nowhere to record. id love to be involved somehow though!

cheers,.

hey jack, I would be up for laying down the bass to zombie eaters, only thing is i don'y have any recording software or anything.
Is there any free software i could use? I have an input jack so i should be able to get some tracks on to the comp once i get my hands on some software or other.
Any help is appreciated, i'm totally psyched about this!

Gordon-- Hit me up at elevatedradio@gmail.com. I'll send you an application which will enable us to exchange tracks as raw data files (makes EQing and multi-tracking much easier). Thanks for offering to help, man! This'll be a real good way to figure out how this is going to work.

Thanks to everyone else getting involved. I'm getting more excited about this by the day. For those of you that want to contribute but aren't necessarily musically inclined, maybe you could come up with some cool artwork ideas. If this turns out as well as I think it will, I'd like to press some CDs, and we'll definitely need cool cover art. Vocalists and lyricists are needed as well. Trust me, we'll find a way to get everyone involved. After Gordon and I get "Zombie Eaters" knocked out, we'll know what works and what doesn't, at which point I'll post a comprehensive tutorial regarding recording and submitting your tracks. I'll also post a roll call sometime this weekend and try to start organizing the troops.

Thanks again. You guys kick ass!
