ELEVATED RADIO #003
Here's the third installment of ELEVATED RADIO. Hope you guys dig it. I warn you in advance, I was coming off a binge that probably would've killed Keith Richards, so please cut me a little slack (haha). Check it out for new PUNY HUMAN and ELECTRIC WIZARD tracks, as well as various other odds & ends. You can stream and/or download at the link below. Enjoy.

hey, i really look forward to these, really enjoyed the first two. dunno about your face, but you definitely have a voice made for radio :)
am running the marathon in NYC next weekend, and there's a bunch of stuff on my mix i've picked up here. thanks as always,
cheers,
ksn
I love you, Big Jack, like a brother's love.. Keep it real, like you do!! You are the MAN!
Now that I listened to this, thanx for the Sludge Swamp mentions, and thanx for playing Mezzanine, oh, and thanx for playing Fu Manchu's cover take of The Cars!!! I just want to tell you on a critical note, that either your upload was shady, or the recording, but the quality of the sound seemed to be down from your last Elevator Session. It kinda went in and out like a phase effect. Also, you have a great DJ voice, don't bury it in background music, either kill that shit, or E.Q. it better when you do your speaking parts.
Keep on doing this, and keep it real! Love ya, man!!!
Cheeto-- Thanks for the criticism, though you're not telling me anything I don't know. This was a half-assed effort at best. I was feeling pretty bad, so I spent zero time normalizing, leveling, and removing background noise. Oh, and there was a fan blowing on me the whole time. I actually like the bumper music between songs, though on the first two 'casts, I was real meticulous about EQing and levels. With this one, I didn't even put in a fraction of that effort. I simply wasn't able to. Next week's will be back up to standard. Thanks, man.
great show! any chance of posting a track/artist list for each release? i just finished listening to the first one. spent some time searching for Horses from Tijuana - only to realize i misheard you...
Anonymous-- Thanks a lot, glad you're digging the show. As for a tracklist, I've wrestled back and forth with that idea and ultimately decided against it. I'll try to speak more clearly (haha...yeeeeah), and perhaps assign labels to each podcast that lists the bands by name in alphabetical order, but I don't like the idea of a detailed playlist. I'm from the old school, when your favorite radio show kicked ass on a weekly basis, and you never knew what to expect. I try to bring that vibe (in my own way, obviously) to Elevated Radio. I don't really want people to know what to expect.
Also, podcasts are too fucking convenient. Since we don't post a lot of leaks/advances on G.O.M.E., I try to be like my favorite rock shows from wayback and play some exclusives and unreleased music. Even if they're on other blogs, please keep in mind that G.O.M.E. averages about 20,000 hits per week. We're a one-stop-shop for a lot of people, even if they're only 10% of that number. I'm a stats junkie when it comes to this blog, and (I hope this doesn't freak people out) I like to trace access paths. A lot of people sign on and immediately come here from their opening page. So while new stuff might be widespread, they might just hear it first on Elevated Radio. If I was to post a playlist, people would simply find us by search, download the podcast, skip through everything to the song they wanted, ape it, and leave. As the good captain, Rinjo, and countless others will attest, we put a lot of work into these.
Well, usually we do. This week and me? Not so much.
Hope that explains things a bit.
Oh yeah...To those out there that don't fuck with statcounters and such, I have no idea who an individual is when I trace the aforementioned access paths. It just shows me whether someone has the blog bookmarked, or if they linked from a search engine, another blog, forum, etc.
The way I worded it above probably sounded kinda creepy, haha. Sorry.
Another kickass podcast, BJ! I particularly enjoyed the second Electric Wizard cut -- "The Chosen Few".
Re: Cheeto's comment on the sound quality... I hear what he's talking about and I wonder if the problem is in the mp3 encoding. What software do you use to create the mp3 file of your podcast? I use iTunes, and it produces a pretty good sounding mp3. I've also been told that LAME-based encoders are the best:

re: Cap
I use Audacity, though on the first two I paid a lot more attention to EQ and noise removal. I also exported the shows at 320kbps before re-importing them and kicking them back out at 128 (with voiceovers and bumper music, that makes a huge difference). This week I simply didn't care. If I hadn't promised a new show every Monday, I wouldn't have even bothered this week. Instead, I chose to phone in a sub-par slack-ass podcast, which is looking more and more like a mistake. Groggy, sick, fan on, dog collar jingling in the background...haha.
Glad you enjoyed the 'cast, though. "The Chosen Few" is my favorite as well. Not just from the new record, either. I think that might just be my favorite Wizard song to date!
