YEAR LONG DISASTER - S/T (2007)

I belive that Cheeto posted this one on his great blog, but since is link doesn't work anymore I post it here..

melding ‘70s sludge, ‘80s thrash, and ‘90s punk into a heavy rock cornucopia, here is YLD. The bass is heavy, the drums are pounding, and the singing is ferocious on “Year Long Disaster,” but a glance at the power trio’s lineup reveals why the finished product came out so solid. The band is fronted by Daniel Davies, son of founding The Kinks member Dave Davies; bass player Rich Mullins, who toured with popular hard rock band Karma To Burn; and drummer Brad Hargreaves, who hails from Third Eye Blind. What matters is the Sabbath-like crunch of “Cold Killer,” the stoner rock shuffle of “Destination,” and the Southern-fueled ZZ Top swagger of “The Fool And You.” And just when you think they can’t slow it down and flesh out a song, Year Long Disaster closes their album with the eight-minute opus “Swan On Black Lake,” which would be worthy of a spot on any Zeppelin album.

This is cool! I particularly like "The Fool in You" with the slide riff. Very catchy blues jam. "Swan on Black Lake" is interesting, if a little forced and pretentious. Great post, man. These guys are the real deal.

It's really a disservice to the band posting a full album download like this. they are on the road barely getting by on gas fumes to play shows for fans and you guys bootleg thier shit online. Lame. what you're doing is really just shortening their carreer a little bit eveytime you post thier album for eveyone to download for free. then i'm sure you'll blog about how there's no good music released anymore, well, be sure to take some of the blame.

I hate to step on Matias' toes, but I went ahead and deleted the YLD album. This has nothing to do with Mike's guilt trip, either, though his little "shame on you guys" outburst did inspire me to do some research on Year Long Disaster. That shit really doesn't fit on G.O.M.E. anyway. Musically, it's a good fit, but we don't need to further promote bands that are already getting a great deal of mainstream press. G.O.M.E. tries to avoid albums that are found on Best Buy endcaps. So, sorry fellas, but if you want to hear Year Long Disaster, check Wal-Mart.

I must say, though, that I find the notion of Third Eye Blind's drummer not being able to afford gas laughable. The stats show that this album was downloaded three times while it was up, so if anyone knows how to get ahold of him, I'll send him $35. If no one knows, I'll try to contact the band through one of their may endorsements, perhaps Line6.

Dry your eyes, Mike. The commercial metal machine will live on, despite missteps by G.O.M.E. and its peasantry.

I bought this album the minute it came out. I had their 4 song EP long before. Being a fan of Karma to Burn and meeting the guys didn't hurt. I think this is one of the best CDs I've bought this year.

They are a "band to watch" in the newest Rolling Stone.

Cheeto-- Haha, very soon, my feline friend. I've just been working a lot and rewarding myself by...well...by getting too fucked up to do Elevated Radio. It'll be a good one, though. I'm hoping to catch up by knocking one this weekend, and following it up with a special edition over the holiday reprieve.

I'm tried to keep up with it, man, but this has been a tough week to say the least. It's coming, though.
