ROBIN TROWER - BRIDGE OF SIGHS (1974)

Matias already posted an excellent Trower set from this time period, so I thought I'd share the timeless classic Bridge of Sighs. This is a truly remarkable record, showcasing Trower's Hendrixian guitar mastery (of course), as well as his songwriting skills. Don't miss out by ignorantly dismissing Bridge of Sighs as a "player album". The ballad "In This Place" would fit in comfortably on an early FUNKADELIC album, while "About to Begin" might quite possibly feature the most beautiful melody ever written. This is one of those rare albums that is suitable for plugging in and learning the tunes, or kicking back in a cloud of freshly exhaled ganja smoke. Strike while the iron's hot, folks. This ain't the easiest slab of wax to find these days. At least at any reasonable price.

1. Day of the Eagle
2. Bridge of Sighs
3. In This Place
4. The Fool & Me
5. Too Rolling Stoned
6. About to Begin
7. Lady Love
8. Little Bit of Sympathy
9. Day of the Eagle [live]

Flower Travellin' Band - Satori

About
Flower Travelling Band was Japan's answer to Led Zeppelin meeting Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath at the Ash Ra Temple. Simply put, they played grand, spacey, tripped-out hard rock with a riffy base that was only two steps removed from the blues, but their manner of interpreting those steps came from an acid trip...

Earthless - Sonic Prayer

About
Stoner rock heroes Earthless are from San Diego. The bandmembers are drummer Mario Rubalcaba from Clikitat Ikatowi and Kawabata Makoto's Hot Snakes, bassist Mike Eginton from Electric Nazarene, and guitarist Isaiah Mitchell from Nebula. The trio plays a brand of slow, prodding, jam-heavy guitar freakout and bass throb echoing everyone in this scene. The difference, however, is that Mitchell can actually play the hell out of his guitar...

Thanks Matias, BBC4 ran some old Grey Whistle Test shows over Christmas and I've just been watching them. Robin Trower was on a '70s edition and I was really taken by his playing, Bridge of Sighs was one of the tracks they showed, so came back to find this and give it a listen.
